We've had several great trips with Whitsunday Escape but this was our first time on their new 45 foot Lagoon sailing catamaran called Great Escape. This was a family Christmas holiday and we had 10 people on board, including both sets of elderly parents.
What a boat! We loved everything about Great Escape, from the luxury cabins to the flybridge where we felt like a million dollars as we sailed between the islands. There are plenty of fridges and freezers to keep all your food & drink nice & cold. Lots of handrails meant that our parents were able to get around the moving boat without worrying about going overboard or hurting themselves. The trampolines at the bow are a perfect place to catch some rays, or if you want to sit & read there are plenty of seating options all around the deck for relaxing. Four bathrooms meant that there was no queuing for the loos, even with 10 people. And there is stacks of storage space for clothing, food, drink etc. This is a really comfortable and luxurious catamaran, perfect for large groups. Thanks again Whitsunday Escape for a memorable Christmas family get-together!
We are now all home in NZ and Australia and send our best wishes to the team at Whitsunday Escape. As usual your team looked after our plans and needs with perfection. This is our fourth charter in the Whitsundays and the third in a row with Whitsunday Escape.
Our group was large, ten in total, but the Lagoon 450 is a substantial catamaran with a layout that provides many separate spaces to allow all to have areas of quite time. The yacht is very well equipped and would mention key features that were beneficial for such a large group like refrigeration, eskies and well-proportioned cabins. The flybridge also was excellent for visibility in particular when anchoring or picking up a mooring compared to other catamarans we have chartered before.
Having been on four charters in the Whitsundays we would currently highlight that the two new moorings in Hook Passage are a fantastic spot for snorkelling at low tide. We did not make the walking track here (spent so much time in the water) but it will be on our list in the future. Coral and colour in this location is very good and it seems to have not been damaged as in many other areas from the recent cyclone. It is worth a day visit and the new moorings are great.
We ventured out to Border Island again and Cateran Bay and recommend this as a wonderful location. The bay's position and gorgeous white sand beach is a true post card photo opportunity. Snorkelling is good here and we could see a lot of coral regrowth. Cateran can get a bit rolly when tied up for the night but there is nothing to be worried about and if you have a catamaran then that issue is not apparent.
We had seven nights on board as usual but in the end it all ended too soon with many more places and walks we wanted to do.
We will see you in 2018 Whitsunday Escape!
